Questions

What does Petal do?

Petal is a Mac app that tracks the usage remaining on your AI subscriptions. Connect your Codex or Claude accounts to see each account’s remaining percentage and when you can use more. Click Petal in your Mac’s menu bar to check all your accounts in one place.

Does Petal include an AI subscription?

No. Petal tracks accounts you already have. Your Codex, Claude, or other AI subscriptions are paid for separately.

Which services does it work with?

Codex and Claude subscriptions, and OpenRouter keys in beta. Grok can be opened from Petal but not tracked yet.

Do I need an API key?

Not for Codex or Claude. Use an existing sign-in or connect in your browser. OpenRouter uses an API key.

How does Petal check my usage?

Petal runs locally on your Mac and requests usage information directly from the providers you connect. You don’t need a separate Petal account, and Petal does not collect analytics.

Which Macs does it run on?

macOS 14 or later, on Apple silicon and Intel.
